The Château de la Mogère is one of these outstanding residences in the area, particularly for its monumental design. Built at the turn of the 18th century, it bears witness to the enrichment of a new aristocracy in Montpellier. The notables invested in the rural countryside to build "houses in the foliage," mainly summer dwellings with sumptuous gardens and tree-lined spaces.
In 1706, Fulcran Limozin, secretary to the king and controller of the chancellery of Montpellier, bought the agricultural estate of La Mogère to settle there. Designed by the Montpellier architect Jean Giral, the current château was built in 1715. After belonging to a famous family of the city, the Boussairolles, the Château de la Mogère was acquired by the Saportas. And it is now the Viscount Gaston de Saporta, a descendant of the 9th generation of the family, who welcomes visitors.

Bright, elegant and harmonious, the facade is built mainly with local stones from old quarries nearby. Inside, the period furniture takes you back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The living rooms feature original furniture from the various families who have lived here over the years. In each room, paintings, statues, moulded and sculpted wall decorations highlight the theme of the four seasons. The decor in the Château de la Mogère also includes a collection of family portraits and other Languedoc notables. The quality of the decor has attracted not only visitors, but also film-makers, since it was here that the film The Return of Casanova was shot with Alain Delon and Fabrice Lucchini.
Between the French and English gardens, the verdant and landscaped park of the Château de la Mogère reveals fountains, statues and ponds. It opens onto a sensory walk where Mediterranean trees rub shoulders with roses, bay trees and other plant species. At the end of the path, a magnificent buffet d’eau bears witness to the Italian influence in the design of the gardens of the period. Endowed with a pond, this large fountain in the rocaille style has been a listed historic monument since 1945.

The estate is open from 01/06 to 30/09 every day from 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm and from 01/10 to 31/05, weekends and public holidays in the afternoon.
From the hotel, you can reach the Château de la Mogère in about ten minutes by car or by tramway on line 1 from the Gare Saint-Roch stop to Odysseum.
